Why you need mental strength in Network marketing

Ever feel like if you get on more no you will just break down and quit?

Whether it’s trying to refrain from the cupcakes and cookies and go for the apple or hit the office and do the unsexy work instead of tuning into Netflix and binge-watching Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Scandal, Law and Order or Grey’s Anatomy…I could go on for EVER as I would do anything to procrastinate certain activities…

…it takes strength!

What I tended to do was to work really hard for a long long time get stressed and run out of all the mental strength I had and then binge watch whatever I could find that I had not watched during this time of hardcore focus and work.  Once I had my fill and thought I was strong enough again I would start working again.

But all the momentum I gained is dropped and each time I have to start over from square one again.

This is where I think consistent work on your mental strength and balance of work and reward has to come into play.

So what is this superhuman Wonder Woman Strength we need to have to not break down and quit but continue to have hope in our goals?

How in the world is anyone to push through and last the test of time with all these hurdles we face as we start and build in Network Marketing.

I took me a long time, and I am certainly still working on it, to build up confidence and strength enough to at least take some kind of imperfect action.  At least to just start!

So, we blame the lack of willpower in situations like this.  However, it only takes us a few minutes a day to build your mental muscle in order to achieve your greatest potential.

MENTAL STRENGTH

Everyone possesses mental strength to some degree. The difference is some work on this muscle more than others. You should know you have the power within you as well to build this muscle and become stronger and the stronger you are, the more likely you are to achieve bigger, better more amazingly awesome goals. 

It’s easy to relate this to exercise.  Let’s take push-ups for example. 

It’s a muscle, as I am sure we can all agree lol. 

We may be ok at push-ups or we may completely suck at them.  In either case, to grow stronger we would only need a few minutes each day to strengthen the muscles that help us to become stronger in that area, the push-up, and over time we would rock 10x more push-ups than we did on day one of trying. 

Now think of that mental muscle you have. 

It’s there and you have the power to train it to do what you want it to do.  It only takes a few minutes a day to train your brain to think differently than you did before.  You can change how you feel about certain activities, manage emotions and make your behavior go from having lazy and procrastination like characteristics to someone who is very productive. 

If you keep up those small activities of you push-ups you will become stronger, right? 

We have mentioned that.  The same is true for you mentality. 

You keep this up and you will become stronger and you will start achieving more and better goals you have set for yourself because you are not consistently restarting after the binge fests of your favorite shows. 

Oh, not what you do?  Just me?  Ok, then whatever it is you do you will stop that and start working and results will show your efforts.  

I have seen many gurus in this industry coaching people to have a gratitude journal and to write in it daily to show what you are thankful for.

Even on mentor of mine said that when he did this, he realized his mind when to the same things all the time and that’s when he had to think harder.

Once he did this he started to realize how thankful he was of the small seemly unimportant activities that happen in our lives and throughout the days.

I have to be honest, I did start to do this and experienced the same thing.  I did not keep it up and am so inconsistent about it.  However, do I suggest not what I say right?  Haha.  It’s all about working to improve in all areas.  You are good and some and I at others.  This one…I need to work on because honestly is was really really awesome to do.

Lot’s of people, even if they have never been athletic, know how to build the physical strength.

But, it seems to be harder for people to wrap their minds around what to do to build mental strength.

Where I do think some are born with this muscle being stronger than others, we all have the ability to build it up and make it as big and strong as we need it to be.  We just have to work at it.

Why you need it?

Let’s chat about why we need it in the first place. 

There are so many reasons and I am sure more than I list below. 

But, these are some of the ones that stood out to me as I was researching and reading articles on this topic.   So, here goes!

Do you ever doubt yourself? 

I will tell you I do!  Have I gotten better….darn tootin I have.  How? 

Exercising this mental muscle and putting strong positive thoughts and truths in my mind.  This comes in the form of my weight.  Going from someone who never had an issue with after babies hating myself.  Not recognizing myself in the mirror because of who was staring back at me and how I spoke to myself to someone who looks back at what I have achieved physically, mentally… and what I am fighting against as far as genetics. 

Then, transforming into someone who is proud of those achievements.  Even though they are not great they are progressing forward. 

This hits me in business to someone who has had this very website for YEARS and done nothing with it to finally grounding myself in my purpose with business and moving forward in it.  You are reading this now because of the work I have done on my mental strength.  If I had not, this page would not even be here. So, join me!  Kick self-doubt to the curb with me…YOU can do it!

Do you lack motivation?  

Strengthening this little mental muscle will help you pull out that inner grit you need to get up and get too it.  Doing something even when you don’t feel like doing it…takes grit…takes strength.  It takes that very mental strength we are talking about here. 

So if you find yourself struggling to get and stay motivated.  Work on this area.  What can you add to your mind that will help you dig deep, find that inner grit and push yourself forward and closer to achieving your goals? 

When you find it…go do it!  You will find that motivation and start hitting your goals in no time. 

Everyone offering you their own two cents? 

Hush that noise by working on your mentality.  Sometimes, others give advice and they mean well, sometimes that doesn’t but that is a whole other topic of conversation. 

Despite their heart being in the right place it still may not be the best or most helpful advice for you, your plan or your goal. 

You need to stay in your lane and focus on what you know is right for you and true to your values and goals.  Sometimes, when you listen and hear so much advice from others you can’t hear your own. 

Or, more importantly, you can not hear what God is telling you to do.  (If that’s not your cup of tea, totally understand.  Not pushing it on you it’s just my belief and it’s woven into my life, work and motivation for others.)   

In short, strengthening your mentality hushes those voices and you can swim faster to the finish line.

Education Education Education.

One of the first things I remember my father in law asking me was what my plans were after high school?  Was I going to college?  He places a high value on education and I agree.

Now that I have children I want the same for them.  And even though I have a BS in Biology and minor in Biblical Studies I am still working on learning new things every single day.  So much sometimes my brain hurts lol.

When you start working on strengthening this mental muscle, guess what?  YOU LEARN NO STINKIN MUCH.

Not only about how to do it and what to do and how you can share that with others when they are struggling.  But, you learn so much about yourself!  Plus, life should lesson after lesson.

As we learn from one lesson we start in on a new one and we never stop learning or searching for what we should learn next.  You will also learn what to do and what not to do.  You will learn from your mistakes and how to correct those to be better the next time.

This will help you accept the responsibility for your business, or whatever you are applying this to, and to not pass blame.  We also want to blame others for our lack of success but really the only one who can make it to the top, whatever your top is, is YOU.

Yep, shocker, I know but it’s so true so believe it! 

 Here is where my learning and education really started opening my mind and help me apply the strategies all the gurus are applying to see success.

Courage!

Hello, this very blog and all the ones before and ones to follow.  This was so scary to me and I put it off for forever.  Partly because I didn’t know what my purpose was and mostly because I was afraid to take imperfect action.

I wanted the stars to align before I put myself out there.  I am so far from perfect and never will be but I worked on myself and became stronger so now I am heading head first right into the eye of the storm.  That storm being fear.

Fear of the unknown and what will come of what I am taking action on right now.

So it’s said to get comfortable being uncomfortable.  Accept that and move forward.  Taking action on improving and making this muscle stronger will result in you being courageous.

Who doesn’t want courage like the lion in the Wizard of Oz?  I want it!  And so do you I just know it!

The comeback QUEEN, or KING. 

Have you ever fallen off the wagon?

You know on your diet or your consistency with what you have to do with your business.  I’m like the queen of falling off and starting again.

You know like on a diet, you fall off the wagon and you say, “OHHHHH, it’s okay.  I will just start on Monday.”  This way you can cheat and not feel guilty.

When you do this you are setting yourself back possibly months by doing this.  Same in business, and I am totally talking to myself here.

We have to be consistent.

However, when we are not and we mess up, fall and fail.  If we have strengthened this muscle at all THAT is what will bounce up back up and keep trying and pushing.  Then, bam…. you wake up one day and you hit that big goal on your vision board.

Have fun on that rollercoaster! 

If you have been in network marketing for any length of time you know that its a rollercoaster of emotions.  You could be so happy one moment only to turn around and something gets your tummy in knots and you are sick to your stomach wonder what you got yourself into. 

It’s nothing like those coasters we rode as kids. 

At least it’s not because we don’t’ have the right mindset or perspective.  Imagine if you change your perspective and strengthened that mental muscle and started to enjoy the journey. 

At the time of writing this, I am by no means a top earner or expert.  Don’t think I will ever be an expert. 

But, what I do know is I have the choice to feel like this journey sucks and it’s not worth it OR decide I will fight like crazy to make things happen so I achieve my goals for myself and for my family. 

We are in control of our entire future and in this day and age, we have so many opportunities to make a living from home!  Is it easy, nope.  But, it’s simple. 

It has to be simple because people from all walks of life are making it happen.  It’s not easy because what nothing worth it comes easy and if it was everyone would be doing it. 

There are people quitting every day because it’s hard.  But not you! 

You know the work is simple you just have to do it and strengthen your mental muscle and you will go straight to the top. 

What does weak mental strength look like?

These don’t really need much explanation as they do that themselves.  Plus, why spend time here in this negative area.  You either know someone who has these qualities or you know if you do or not.  I believe in one area of your life you could be in a weaker mindset but in another area have a much stronger mental strength because you have worked on it.  Also, know and believe that you can, at any time improve on these areas.  I will give you tips on what I do for myself to help you out at the end of this post.  I took found these ideas during my research and reversed the sayings to make them read the way they do.  But, I did come across a book that is now on my ‘to read list’ 13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do.  I have not read it yet but it has my interested and made it into this blog so I am going to read it. Anyway, real quick you have a weak or weaker mindset if you fall into one or more of these areas.

  • You Complain More
  • Yo never step outside your comfort zone.
  • You do not take others opinions into consideration, at least not well.
  • You are jealous of the success of others.
  • You get angry quickly
  • you do not like and won’t accept change.
  • Waits your time on things you do not have control over changing
  • Fear taking risks
  • Dwell on the past
  • Make the same mistakes over and over again
  • Give up after the first time they fail
  • Fear being alone
  • Worry about pleasing everyone
  • Feel like everyone and/or the world owes you something or everything

Do you have mental strength?

Don’t follow the list above if you want to have strenth in this area.  Start changing it today!  

What can we do to change it? 

  1. Be nice to yourself
  2. Incorporate an exercise routine
  3. Set a work schedule and stick to it.  (Stay at home momma’s…this is so hard and huge MUST!)
  4. Set S.M.A.R.T goals.
  5. Journal to reflect and give gratitude for everything big and small in your life and business
  6. Strategize a plan, and then follow it
  7. Create a ‘dump’ system where you can dump everything in your mind out and clear your mind so you can get to work.  This may be weekly, daily or I kinda do it on the go as well so I can get it out and plan it later without forgetting.
  8. Do at least 1-3 items on your to-do list daily.  Take that to do list from your dump list
  9. Baby step everything you do.  Focus on the activities and not the results
  10. Develop a thick skin and don’t take things personally
  11. Expect to fail…a lot.  Especially if you are in business for the long haul
  12. Learn when you do fail
  13. Find a mentor.  In person, virtually or both
  14. Ask for help when you need it

Well, that’s a wrap.  We need this in our business life and in all area’s really!  So start implementing today to get yourself set up for success in your business.
