Wedding Cakes

I have done a few wedding cakes and I do love the outcome and providing a bride with her dream cake.  But man is it stressful.  My shoulders hold all the weight until that cake is placed on the cake table at the venue.

Tips on doing a wedding cake…

  1.  Start with family and friends obviously.  They will know you are starting out and support you most of the time in your journey to getting better and providing them with an extremely discounted wedding cake…if not free with is what I did my first few.
  2.  Don’t take on more than what you are comfortable with doing.  It’s a big day and even the simplest of cake can give you problems and I just don’t want any problems on a wedding cake…especially the day of!
  3. Prepare prepare prepare and give yourself enough time to arrive and set up.

Last weekend I did the cake I am sharing with you today and it was a simple design 3 tier cake.  For some reason, it seems when you have nothing to do on the weekends you have nothing to do.  But, when one thing is created on that day or weekend it’s like a magnet attracting all kinds of other invited to put on your calendar.  That was this weekend!  We had nothing but this cake.  Then, we got invited to a different wedding that night followed by a summer kickoff gathering and a birthday party.

Oh Lord…talk about stress.  I turned ALL of the others down except the wedding to attend that night.  I gave myself more than enough time to get there, set it up and fix anything that could possibly happen.  OH…and I always bring an emergancy bag to fix or patch any area.

Everything worked out perfectly.  I delivered the cake already stacked and my hubby placed it right on the table and we were good to go. That is the best way it could have happened and what I was praying for.

But, I was prepared for, what I think, the worst of the worst.  Thankfully, I don’t even have to go there!

So here is the cake just wanted to share it here…it is definitely one of my favorites as it was such a simple design.
